image of making

Commissioned as part of the Shanghai Lujiazui Green Bank Public Art Festival, Image of Making was a multiscreen film installation composed of more than 18 hours of film collected across four countries, Spain, UK, Oman and China.
This film constitutes the chapter shot in the city of Jingdezheng, China. The material was compressed into four separate sequences projected simultaneously onto a 2.25-by- 4 metre screens installed in a purpose built cinema pavilion. Spectators would stand to view the 28 minute sequence allowing them to move around the room and watch the various projections concurrently. Each sequence was defined by a given location, material and craft ,designed to provide a visual expression of the complexity and diversity of craft and industrial fabrication practices. All the footage and sound was shot and recorded on location with the aim to communicate the significance of context for each of the presented practices. The edited choreography and intensity of the film sequence aimed to create a heightened sense of labour and materiality, transporting us through the visual and sonic experience into the various workshops, factories and landscapes.
